[Verse 1] Your faith has grown where the pressure remained, Your love has increased where the faithful were pained. We speak of your patience in churches abroad, A witness of endurance before righteous God. [Chorus] Rest with us when the Lord is revealed, When every hidden wound is judged and healed. He comes to be glorified in all who believe, And those who have suffered shall rest and receive. [Bridge - Warning Movement] The fire is not theater, vengeance is not ours, The Judge answers evil at the end of its hours. Away from his presence the stubborn depart, While saints stand amazed at the King of the heart. [Bridge - Prayer] Count them worthy, O God, of the calling they bear, Fulfill every goodness and work of faith there. Let Jesus be honored in all that they do, And grace give them glory in Christ faithful and true. [Outro - Final Chorus] Rest with us when the Lord is revealed, The weary made steadfast, the broken ones sealed. He comes with his angels, the faithful shall see, The kingdom they suffered for, righteous and free.

About the passage

2 Thessalonians 1: Faith grows under pressure

The first chapter refuses to let persecution become the Thessalonians' whole identity. Paul, Silvanus, and Timotheus begin with a church whose faith "groweth exceedingly" and whose mutual love is increasing while tribulation continues. Their endurance is then placed inside God's righteous judgment: present suffering is not the final verdict, and the revelation of Jesus brings both rest to the troubled and judgment upon those opposed to God and the gospel. The scene is vast, with mighty angels, flaming fire, and Christ glorified in his saints, yet the chapter returns directly to the congregation's present life. Paul prays that God would count them worthy of their calling and fulfill "the work of faith with power." Future glory therefore does not empty present work of meaning. It gives that work its horizon.
