[Watchman] Locusts rose where the latter grass grew, I cried, Forgive; little Jacob is few. I cried, O cease; little Jacob cannot stand, [Answer] The LORD relented and the swarm was stayed, Then fire drank the deep and came over the land. Again the sentence paused at the lifted hand. [Watchman] Then no beast or flame, only line against wall, A plumbline hanging where crooked stones fall. What seest thou, Amos? A measure held still, [Answer] Not anger without shape, but the truth of the build. Twice mercy answered the prophet’s plea, The third vision asked what the nation had become. [Bridge] A wall cannot argue with the vertical line, And worship cannot hide what the measure defines.
