Lyrics · Amos
I Will Raise Up the Tabernacle of David
Amos 9:1-15
[Movement I]
Strike the lintel; let the pillars shake,
No cave in the sea and no mountain can hide.
The kingdom is sifted like grain in a screen,
Judgment begins where the altar had stood,
[Movement II]
Yet not one true kernel is lost to the ground.
Then raise up the booth that had fallen in rain,
Close every breach and rebuild it again.
The LORD is not trapped in the borders of Israel.
[Movement III]
The plow meets the reaper, the grapes meet the seed,
Wine from the mountain and gardens from grief.
Ruined cities breathe and the vineyards return,
The scattered are planted where homes had been burned.
[Bridge]
The book that began with a roar ends with ground:
David’s booth standing and mercy made sound.
[Coda]
Judgment begins where the altar had stood,
The LORD is not trapped in the borders of Israel.
The book that began with a roar ends with ground:
David’s booth standing and mercy made sound.
