Lyrics · Deuteronomy
Rejoice at the Chosen Place
Deuteronomy 12:1-16:22
[Verse 1]
Every pagan altar in the land was marked to fall,
Israel would not worship by the customs of the nations.
Sacrifice and tithe and vow would come where God chose for His name,
And households would rejoice before the LORD who gave the land.
[Pre-Chorus]
Blood poured out upon the earth,
Life was never common food.
[Chorus]
Rejoice at the chosen place,
Bring the first and bring the best.
Remember Levite, stranger, orphan, widow,
Let the feast become a table where the vulnerable rest.
[Verse 2]
False prophet, secret brother, apostate city faced the test,
No sign could make idolatry become a faithful path.
Clean and unclean foods distinguished covenant life,
And every third-year tithe stayed near to feed the poor.
[Bridge]
Seven years released the debt and opened hands to need,
Servants left with generous gifts, not empty from their years.
Passover recalled the night, Weeks remembered slavery,
Booths rejoiced at harvest while the judges guarded justice.
[Final Chorus]
Rejoice at the chosen place,
Bring the first and bring the best.
Let the free and poor and stranger gather,
And let the joy of covenant become the nation's rest.
[Outro]
Worship had one center,
But mercy filled the table.
