Let Your Words Be Few
Ecclesiastes · Bible Songs, Classical & Orchestral
Guard your steps when entering God's house;
Come near to listen, not to offer foolish noise.
Do not hurry into promises before Him;
He is in heaven, and you are on the earth.
Let your words be few;
Pay the vow your mouth has made.
Do not call an empty promise an accident;
Fear God and walk before Him truthfully.
Do not marvel when the poor are being crushed
Or justice disappears beneath official power.
One authority is watched by one above him;
Still the earth must feed the field and king.
Whoever loves silver is never filled with silver;
Whoever loves abundance always asks for more.
When possessions grow, their consumers gather;
What remains but watching wealth pass by?
The laborer's sleep is sweet after his working,
Whether his meal is little or is full.
But riches keep their owner awake through darkness;
Wealth can wound the hands that try to hold it.
Naked we arrive and naked we return;
No treasure travels with us through the grave.
So receive your food, your work, and honest gladness;
God gives the power to enjoy the days He gave.
