Christ Loved the Church

Ephesians · sacred choral-orchestral

[Walk] Walk in love as Christ also loved, An offering fragrant and lifted to God. Leave hidden uncleanness, coveting, shame, Let thanksgiving answer the life of His name. [Light] Once darkness, now light in the Lord, Walk as children bearing good fruit. Expose what is barren, awake from the dead, And Christ shall give light where the sleeper is led. [Chorus] Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, To sanctify, cleanse, and present her in glory. No spot and no wrinkle, but holy and whole, Love nourishing life as a body and soul. Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, The cross is the measure the household must learn. [Verse II] Walk carefully, redeeming the time, Not drunk with excess, but Spirit-filled mind. Psalms and hymns, thanksgiving and song, Submitting in reverence where all hearts belong. [Marriage Movement] Husbands must love as Christ loved His body, Not rule by hunger or honor themselves. No one has hated his own living flesh, But nourishes, cherishes, guards it with care. [Bridge] For this cause one leaves father and mother, And two are joined closely, no longer another. This mystery is great, yet the meaning is clear: Christ and His church are the center held here. [Final Chorus] Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, No domination can borrow His story. Let each one love and let reverence be true, The covenant reflects what the Savior has done. [Outro] The marriage image was holy, Because the sacrifice came first.
