[Prisoner and Mystery] A prisoner of Jesus for Gentiles afar, Paul wrote of the stewardship carried through bars. The mystery hidden in ages before Was opened by Spirit through apostolic word. [Refrain] Fellow heirs, one body, Partakers together in Christ by the gospel. Not guests at the edge, not a lesser degree, But joined in the promise once hidden, now seen. [Verse II] Grace made a minister of one who felt least, To preach the unsearchable riches of Christ. Through church in the present, to powers above, God's manifold wisdom is shown through His love. [Chorus] The mystery revealed, The nations brought near in one body and promise. Boldness and access through faith in the Son, Tribulation cannot make the purpose undone. The mystery revealed, What ages concealed now is preached. [Prayer] Strengthen the inward man by the Spirit, Let Christ dwell in hearts through faith that can hear it. Rooted and grounded in love, comprehend Breadth, length, depth, and height without end. [Doxology] Unto Him who can do above all we request, According to power already at work, Be glory in church and in Christ Jesus, Throughout every age, world without end. [Final Refrain] Fellow heirs, one body, Filled with the fullness that love makes known. [Coda] The mystery became a people, And the people became a witness.

About the passage

Ephesians 3: The prisoner explains a purpose larger than his prison

The prisoner keeps explaining something too large for the prison to interpret. In chapter 3, the Book of Ephesians names the "mystery" plainly: Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ through the gospel. Revelation moves toward communication, not toward an elite circle guarding a secret. Paul describes his own commission as grace, then says the church itself makes God's manifold wisdom known even to heavenly powers. His tribulations therefore do not define the success or failure of the purpose he serves. The chapter then resumes the prayer interrupted at its opening. Paul asks for inward strength through the Spirit, Christ's settled dwelling, roots and foundations in love, and a shared comprehension of a love that "passeth knowledge." The doxology expands beyond asking and thinking, yet remains tied to the very prayer it has just finished.
