The Whole Armour of God

Ephesians · Phrygian dominant orchestral folk

[Household] Children obey and fathers do not provoke, Servants and masters stand under one Lord. No threat and no rank escapes heaven's sight, The battle ahead is not flesh against flesh. [Summons] Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might, Put on the whole armor and stand in the fight. Not wrestling with blood, not hatred of men, But powers of darkness and spiritual sin. [Chorus] Put on the whole armour of God, That ye may stand in the evil day. Truth round the waist and righteousness guarded, Feet carrying peace on the dangerous way. Put on the whole armour of God, And having done all, still stand. [Verse II] Above all take faith as a shield in the flame, Quenching the darts that accuse and inflame. Salvation the helmet, the Spirit's own sword, The word of God held, not violence adored. [Prayer Bridge] Praying always with watchfulness strong, For all of the saints through the night stretching long. And pray for the prisoner, ambassador bound, That boldness may open his mouth with the sound. [Final Chorus] Put on the whole armour of God, Not costume, not fantasy, not human rage. Truth, righteousness, gospel, faith, salvation, word, And prayer make the church ready to stand. [Coda] The ambassador wore chains, Yet asked for boldness to speak.
