Ezekiel 8: The sanctuary’s hidden rooms are opened

A vision carries Ezekiel from his house among the exiles into Jerusalem's sanctuary, where the presence of divine glory makes the offenses he sees more, not less, severe. The Book of Ezekiel opens the temple by stages. An image provoking jealousy stands near the entrance. A hidden chamber reveals creatures, idols, incense, and seventy elders who assume that darkness means the LORD cannot see. Women mourn for Tammuz at the gate. Men in the inner court turn their backs toward the temple and face east to worship the sun. Each scene intensifies the charge without requiring Ezekiel to invent what lies behind it. Then the indictment leaves ceremonial space and names violence throughout the land. Sanctuary corruption and public wrongdoing belong to the same case. The chapter ends with announced fury, preparing the judgment that follows while exposing the contradiction in the elders' claim that God neither sees nor remains concerned.
