Lyrics · Ezekiel
Dig Now in the Wall
Ezekiel 8:1-18
[Oracle]
Elders sat calmly while the vision began,
A hand lifted Ezekiel beyond where exile ran.
At the gate stood jealousy dressed as a sign,
[People]
Dig now in the wall; do not stop at the door,
The painted beasts wait where the elders burn smoke.
[Oracle]
Yet deeper corruption was hidden inside.
They said, He does not see; the earth is forsaken,
And darkness became permission for worship misshapen.
At another gate mourning served a foreign name,
[People]
Dig now in the wall; do not stop at the door,
The painted beasts wait where the elders burn smoke.
Between porch and altar backs turned from the house.
[Bridge]
Twenty-five faces received the eastern sun,
While violence below made devotion a lie.
The glory was present though the secret rooms denied it,
[Coda]
Dig now in the wall; hidden worship will be seen.
Dig now in the wall; do not stop at the door,
The painted beasts wait where the elders burn smoke.
