[Verse 1]
The hand set Ezekiel
In a valley broad and low,
Full of bones exceeding many,
Very dry in every row.
"Can these bones live?" came the question.
He answered, "Lord, Thou knowest."
Then prophecy crossed silence
Where no pulse or sinew flowed.
[Build]
Bone came to bone.
Sinew took hold.
Flesh covered frame.
Skin closed the cold.
Yet no breath moved
Through the army that stood;
Bodies filled the valley,
But life was not yet good.
[Chorus]
Breathe upon these bones,
Come from the four winds.
Breathe upon the slain,
Let the living rise again.
Breath entered bodies,
And an army stood full grown.
Breathe upon these bones,
For hope is not gone.
[Verse 2]
"These bones are the whole house
That says its hope is lost.
Their graves shall open outward;
Exile shall release its cost.
One nation in the homeland,
One shepherd over all;
No idols split their worship,
No kingdom face its fall."
[Final Chorus]
Breathe upon these bones,
Place Thy Spirit deep within.
Plant the people in the land,
Wash away the ancient sin.
A covenant of peace,
A sanctuary known:
Breathe upon these bones,
And make the dry bones live.
