They Kept the Passover with Joy

Ezra 6:16-22

[Verse 1] The children of Israel gather for the dedication of God's house. The dedication is kept with joy. Two hundred rams are presented. Twelve male goats provide a sin offering for all Israel. [Pre-Chorus] The long night ended, fear released its hold, And every household heard the story told. [Chorus] They Kept the Passover with Joy, let the feast begin, Joy returned where grief and fear had been. The people sang because the word held true, And every generation learned what God could do. [Verse 2] The service follows the written order in Moses' book. The returned children keep Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month. Priests and Levites purify themselves together. Offerings are also prepared for their priestly brethren and themselves. [Bridge] They seek the LORD God of Israel in renewed holiness. The Feast of Unleavened Bread continues seven days. The people rejoice because God has made them joyful. The king's heart is turned to strengthen their hands in the temple work. [Final Chorus] They Kept the Passover with Joy, let the feast begin, Joy returned where grief and fear had been. The people sang because the word held true, And every generation learned what mercy still could do. [Outro] The feast became a memory to keep. Joy learned the name of those who once would weep.
