A Light of the Gentiles
Isaiah · Modern Classical
[Refrain]
A bruised reed bends; he will not break it.
A smoking wick breathes; he will not quench it.
Truth moves quietly until judgment stands.
The distant isles wait for his law.
[Verse 1]
Behold my servant, chosen and upheld;
my delight rests upon him.
He does not lift his voice in the street,
he will not fail when resistance gathers,
he will set judgment in the earth.
[Post-Chorus]
Gentle in sound, unbroken in purpose;
quiet strength keeps moving outward.
[Verse 2]
The Maker stretched the heavens and spread the earth,
gave breath to the people who walk upon it.
I called thee in righteousness and held thine hand,
kept thee for a covenant of the people,
and gave thee for a light of the Gentiles.
[Breakdown]
Blind eyes open where the beam arrives;
prison doors answer the turning key.
Those seated in darkness rise from the house;
my glory will not be given to graven stone.
[Refrain]
A bruised reed bends; he will not break it.
A smoking wick breathes; he will not quench it.
Truth moves quietly until judgment stands.
The distant isles wait for his law.
[Outro]
The former things have come to pass;
new things are told before they spring.
