Lyrics · Jeremiah
As Clay in the Potter’s Hand
Jeremiah 18:1-23
[Oracle]
The wheel kept turning though the vessel failed,
The hand did not panic when the center gave way.
Clay cannot lecture the fingers that know
[People]
As clay in the potter’s hand,
A nation may turn while the wheel still moves.
[Oracle]
Where pressure must enter and where mercy must slow.
Judgment announced is not pleasure in ruin;
Return and be shaped before hardness is chosen.
They answered, No hope; we will follow our thought,
[People]
As clay in the potter’s hand,
A nation may turn while the wheel still moves.
Then planned with the tongue against warning they fought.
[Bridge]
Snow leaves the mountain, strange waters run dry,
A people forgets what creation keeps nearby.
The wheel keeps turning, but time is not clay;
[Coda]
Yield to the hand while repentance has day.
As clay in the potter’s hand,
A nation may turn while the wheel still moves.
