[Verse 1] Eliphaz accuses Job of vain knowledge, east wind. Eliphaz says Job rejects God's consolations and insists that no human is naturally clean. Job calls the friends miserable comforters and says he could speak differently if their positions were reversed. Job pictures himself torn, gnashed upon, delivered to enemies. [Pre-Chorus] No answer came to quiet every fear, Only the weight of all that had drawn near. [Chorus] I Know That My Redeemer Liveth, carry this grief through night, Tears have weight beneath the fading light. Truth still speaks when comfort has grown thin, And faith keeps breathing where the wounds begin. [Verse 2] He asks God for a pledge because the friends lack understanding. Made a byword with dim eyes, Job still says the upright will be astonished and hold their way. His visible hope appears to descend into the bars and darkness of the grave. Nets, snares, terrors, destruction, and forgotten memory define Bildad's portrait of the wicked. [Bridge] Brothers, acquaintances, relatives, servants, wife, and intimate friends have become estranged. Young people scorn him, his bones cling to skin. Job begs for pity and wishes his words could be permanently written in rock. He declares that his Redeemer lives, expects to see God after bodily destruction.
