[Oracle] They divided the land and gambled for lives, Carried the silver to temples of lies. [Refrain] Gather the nations, let the valley receive them, The harvest is ripe and the winepress is full. [Oracle] Names became prices, the captive was sold, Distance concealed what the market had done. Multitudes, multitudes, decision is near, [Refrain] Gather the nations, let the valley receive them, The harvest is ripe and the winepress is full. [People] Not human election, but judgment made clear. The sun folds away and the heavens are shaken, The LORD roars from Zion; the proud are awakened. What was scattered is called from the coast, [Bridge] What was hidden is counted before the Judge. He is refuge and strength when the earth loses voice, [Coda] The valley of decision belongs to the LORD. Gather the nations, let the valley receive them, The harvest is ripe and the winepress is full.

About the passage

Joel 3: The nations gather before the judge

The final chapter moves from Judah's restored life to the judgment of nations that scattered the people, divided the land, plundered what belonged to the LORD, and sold human lives for passing pleasure. The accusations are concrete, especially where a boy is exchanged for a prostitute and a girl for wine. The nations are then summoned to prepare for war so thoroughly that agricultural tools become weapons, but their muster leads not to an uncertain contest. It brings them into the valley where the LORD sits to judge. Harvest and winepress imagery now describe wickedness brought to ripeness. Cosmic darkness returns as the LORD roars from Zion, shaking heaven and earth while becoming refuge and strength for his people. The book closes by reversing its opening drought: rivers flow, a fountain comes from the house of the LORD, Judah endures, and the final assurance is that the LORD dwells in Zion.
