Lyrics · Leviticus
Be Holy in All Your Ways
Leviticus 17:1-23:44
[Verse 1]
Blood belonged before the LORD, for life was in the blood,
Israel could not copy Egypt or the nations in the land.
Reverence shaped the Sabbath, idols could not share the heart,
And harvest edges waited for the stranger and the poor.
[Pre-Chorus]
Truth in trade and mercy in judgment,
Love the neighbor, do not cherish hate.
[Chorus]
Be holy in all your ways,
In the field, the court, the house, the sacred days.
Not only at the altar, not only when you pray,
Let justice, mercy, truth, and worship mark the nation every day.
[Verse 2]
Do not curse the deaf or place a stumbling block before the blind,
Do not steal a worker's wages or bend judgment for a side.
Priests bore stricter boundaries, offerings had to be whole,
For the name of God was holy in the service and the home.
[Bridge]
Sabbath opened every cycle, Passover recalled the night,
Firstfruits, Weeks, and Trumpets gathered gratitude in time.
Atonement brought affliction, Booths remembered wilderness,
And joy completed harvest under branches in the rest.
[Final Chorus]
Be holy in all your ways,
In the field, the court, the house, the sacred days.
Not only at the altar, not only when you pray,
Let justice, mercy, truth, and worship mark the nation every day.
[Outro]
Holiness wore working clothes,
And kept the calendar of grace.
