The Widow's Two Mites
Mark · Vocal House
[Verse 1 - the first commandment]
Which is the first commandment of all?
Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord.
Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
With all thy soul, mind, and strength.
[Chorus - the second]
Love thy neighbour as thyself.
There is none other commandment greater.
To love is more than whole burnt offerings and sacrifices;
Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.
[Verse 2 - beside the treasury]
Jesus sat over against the treasury
And watched how the people cast money in.
Many that were rich cast in much;
Then one poor widow came near.
[Refrain - two mites]
She threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
He called his disciples to see.
This poor widow hath cast in more
Than all they which have cast into the treasury.
[Outro - all her living]
They gave from their abundance;
She of her want cast in all that she had,
Even all her living.
