[Opening Litany] Blessed are the poor in spirit: The kingdom opens wide. Blessed are the ones who mourn: They shall be comforted inside. Blessed are the meek of heart: The earth shall be their share. Blessed those who hunger after right: They shall be filled there. [Verse 1] Merciful shall mercy find. Pure in heart shall see. Peacemakers are children named; The persecuted carry victory. Salt must keep its savor. Light belongs where all can see. Let good works point beyond themselves To heaven's majesty. [Chorus] Blessed are the kingdom people, Hidden roots and visible fruit. Love the enemy, pray for hatred, Build the life on living truth. Seek first the kingdom and its righteousness; Let tomorrow bear its care. Ask, seek, knock; the Father knows The needs His children bear. [Verse 2] Give without a trumpet. Pray without a stage. Forgive as mercy has forgiven; Let no vengeance write the page. Do not judge with blinded measure. Take the beam before the mote. By their fruits the trees are known, Not every pious note. [Final Image] Rain came down and rivers rose; Winds beat every wall. One house stood upon the rock; One built on sand would fall. Blessed are the hearers Who also do the word.
