The Sower Went Forth to Sow
Matthew · Psychedelic Pop
[Refrain - bare call]
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
The word of the kingdom is falling like seed.
[Verse 1 - four grounds]
From the boat by the shore, a sower cast wide.
Way-side grain vanished under the birds.
Shallow earth quickened, then burned in the sun;
Without any root, its green promise withered.
Thorns rose together and tightened their hold.
Care of this world and riches choked the word.
Good ground received it, understood, and bore
A hundred, sixty, thirty from what was sown.
[Verse 2 - eyes opened]
Blessed are the eyes that see what prophets desired,
Blessed are the ears that hear what they longed to hear.
Mysteries are given; some see and do not perceive,
Some hear and do not understand.
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
[Interlude - 4 bars]
[Verse 3 - field at night]
Good seed stood green; in the sleeping dark,
An enemy crossed and scattered tares.
The servants asked, Shall we pull them now?
Let both grow together until the harvest.
The wheat to the barn; the tares bound for fire;
Then shall the righteous shine as the sun.
[Breakdown - small things, hidden worth]
A mustard grain rose into sheltering branches.
Leaven hidden deep moved all the meal.
Treasure in a field made a man sell all with joy.
One pearl of great price emptied a merchant's hand.
[Refrain - gathered return]
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
A net gathers every kind before the shore;
The angels sever the wicked from the just.
[Outro - new and old]
Have ye understood? Yea, Lord.
The scribe instructed in the kingdom
Is like a householder bringing from his treasure
Things new and old.
