Come, Let Us Build the Wall

Nehemiah 2:1-20

[Verse 1] In Nisan Nehemiah serves wine before Artaxerxes. Nehemiah becomes very afraid under the royal question. The king asks what request Nehemiah would make. He asks to be sent to Judah to rebuild the city of his fathers' graves. [Pre-Chorus] The stones lay broken, every gate was burned, But prayer became the place where courage turned. [Chorus] Come, Let Us Build the Wall, raise the broken stones, Call the scattered families to their homes. The work grew strong through prayer, truth, and hand, And ruined gates remembered how to stand. [Verse 2] The king grants everything according to God's good hand. Captains and horsemen escort Nehemiah with the royal letters. Sanballat and Tobiah are deeply grieved that someone seeks Israel's welfare. He rises by night with a few men and reveals his plan to no one. [Bridge] He passes the valley gate, dragon well, and dung port among broken walls and burned gates. At the fountain and king's pool the rubble leaves no room for the beast. Nehemiah continues by the brook, returns through the valley gate. The leaders hear of God's hand and the king's words and strengthen themselves to build. [Final Chorus] Come, Let Us Build the Wall, raise the broken stones, Call the scattered families to their homes. The work grew strong through prayer, truth, and hand, And ruined gates remembered where to stand. [Outro] The wall stood firm, but hearts still needed care. The work was stone and covenant and prayer.
