Restore unto Them This Day

Nehemiah 5:1-19

[Verse 1] The people and their wives raise a great cry against Jewish brethren. Others have mortgaged fields, vineyards, and houses during famine. Sons and daughters are brought into bondage to fellow Jews. Nehemiah becomes very angry when he hears the cry. [Pre-Chorus] The stones lay broken, every gate was burned, But prayer became the place where courage turned. [Chorus] Restore unto Them This Day, raise the broken stones, Call the scattered families to their homes. The work grew strong through prayer, truth, and hand, And ruined gates remembered how to stand. [Verse 2] He asks why brethren are being sold again among their own people. The accused leaders remain silent and find no answer. Nehemiah calls them to walk in God's fear before hostile nations. The nobles promise restitution and swear before the priests. [Bridge] The congregation answers Amen and performs the agreement. For twelve years Nehemiah refuses the governor's bread allowance. He contrasts former governors' heavy demands with his fear of God and continued wall labor. Nehemiah feeds many at his table without burdening the people and asks God to remember him. [Final Chorus] Restore unto Them This Day, raise the broken stones, Call the scattered families to their homes. The work grew strong through prayer, truth, and hand, And ruined gates remembered where to stand. [Outro] The wall stood firm, but hearts still needed care. The work was stone and covenant and prayer.
