A Word Fitly Spoken
Proverbs · Bible Songs, Classical & Orchestral, Pop & Contemporary
It is God's glory to conceal a matter;
The honor of a king is searching it through.
Remove the dross and silver finds its purpose;
Remove the wicked, and the throne stands true.
A word fitly spoken in its season
Is golden fruit in silver set.
Faithful correction to a willing listener
Is an ornament the heart will not forget.
Do not push yourself before a ruler;
Better to be called than put to shame.
Do not rush to court against your neighbor;
A secret carelessly revealed destroys a name.
If your enemy is hungry, give him bread;
If he thirsts, then place the water near.
North wind gathers rain, and hidden slander
Brings an angry face and spreading fear.
Like a city broken down without defenses
Is the person with no rule upon the soul.
Too much honey overwhelms the sweetness;
Seek no praise beyond a measured goal.
A word fitly spoken in its season
Carries grace no treasure can replace.
Let restraint and kindness guard your speaking;
Set the truth like gold in silver space.
