About the passage
Psalms 6: The prayer heard through tears
Psalm 6 gives distress a body. Weakness reaches bones, soul, eyes, and the bed itself, while the speaker asks for mercy without supplying a diagnosis or naming a particular sin. The plea “how long?” measures duration rather than offering an explanation. Death is feared partly because it would silence the living voice of thanksgiving, making rescue inseparable from continued praise. Then the poem changes its tone without reporting a cure, messenger, or altered circumstance. The LORD has heard the “voice” of weeping, and that assurance is enough to turn the speaker toward his enemies with new confidence. The Book of Psalms leaves the outward mechanism unstated and locates the decisive change in divine attention received as certain.
