A new heaven and new earth arise where former things have passed. The holy city comes from God, a bride prepared and bright. The tabernacle of God rests openly among his people. He dwells with them, their God, and they forever are his own. All Things Made New Behold, the former sorrow passes from creation. The throne and Lamb become everlasting light. The redeemed shall reign where no curse remains. Every tear is wiped away; death, grief, crying, pain are ended. From the throne comes the faithful word that all things are made new. Every tear is gathered and forever ended. The holy city opens where the river flows. Living water is freely given to every thirsty soul. The overcomer inherits all, while the second death remains outside. All Things Made New Behold, the former sorrow passes from creation. The throne and Lamb become everlasting light. The redeemed shall reign where no curse remains. All Things Made New

About the passage

Revelation 21: God makes his dwelling with humanity

Revelation 21 does not end with humanity escaping upward. The decisive movement is Jerusalem coming down from God into a new heaven and new earth, and the repeated promise is that God will dwell "with" his people. The chapter then lets that presence reshape everything else. Tears, death, sorrow, crying, and pain belong to the former order. The city is both bride and place, carrying the names of Israel's tribes and the Lamb's apostles, and its cubic dimensions turn the whole settlement into sanctuary space. Its gold, jewels, and pearls recall Babylon's luxury while removing Babylon's merchants and prices. Most startlingly, Jerusalem has no separate temple and no need of ordinary lights because God and the Lamb fill those functions. Its gates stand open, nations bring their honor, and yet nothing defiling crosses the threshold. Welcome and holiness are held together rather than traded against each other.
