All Israel Shall Be Saved
Romans · ceremonial brass-and-strings
[Grief]
Great heaviness stayed in the apostle's heart,
For kindred and covenant seemingly apart.
The fathers, the promises, worship, and law,
And Christ came in flesh from the people he loved.
[Verse I]
Not all of the seed are the children of promise,
The Potter is free and His mercy is honest.
He raised up Pharaoh, preserved a remnant,
And called from the nations a people once absent.
[Refrain]
It is not of him that willeth or runneth,
But God who shows mercy according to purpose.
Yet faith comes by hearing the word of Christ,
And near is the word that gives life.
[Verse II]
Israel pursued and stumbled at stone,
While Gentiles received what they had not sought.
But has God cast off His people? God forbid,
A remnant by grace still lives as He said.
[Olive Tree]
Wild branches entered the cultivated root,
But pride cannot boast over what bears the fruit.
If natural branches were broken for unbelief,
Stand by faith, fear God, and refuse self-conceit.
[Chorus]
All Israel shall be saved,
The Deliverer comes and the covenant remains.
Enemies touching the gospel, beloved for the fathers,
The gifts and the calling are not taken away.
All Israel shall be saved,
Mercy has shut all in, that mercy may reign.
[Doxology]
O depth of the riches of wisdom and knowing,
How unsearchable judgments, how hidden His going.
Of Him, through Him, and to Him are all things,
To Him be the glory forever. Amen.
[Outro]
The argument ends in worship,
Not in human boasting.
