[Before] We once were deceived and enslaved by desire, In malice and envy, in hatred and fire. So speak evil of none and refuse every brawl, Show meekness remembering what mercy did call. [Chorus] He saved us by the washing of regeneration, The Holy Ghost renewing a ruined creation. Not works we had done in our own righteousness, But mercy poured richly through Jesus who saves. [Verse II] The kindness and love of the Savior appeared, And grace made us heirs of the hope we revered. So carefully practice the good that is due, For mercy that changes bears visible fruit. [Warning Turn] Avoid empty questions and quarrels of law, Admonish division, then honor the boundary. Do not spend the church on unprofitable strife, Maintain what is needed and fruitful in life. [Final Chorus] He saved us by the washing of regeneration, The Spirit poured out in abundant salvation. Justified freely, made heirs by his grace, Let good works now flourish in every place.
