[Verse 1] Naboth kept a vineyard Beside Ahab's royal door. The king desired it for a garden, Offered silver, land, and more. Naboth answered by inheritance: "The Lord forbid the sale." Ahab turned his face in anger, Lay in bed, refused his meal. [Verse 2] Jezebel wrote letters Under Ahab's seal and name. She placed false men before Naboth, Called a fast to cover shame. They accused him before elders, Dragged him out and cast the stone; Then she told the sulking monarch: "Rise, the vineyard is thine own." [Chorus] The vineyard stolen, The blood beneath the vine, The crown may sign the murder, But heaven reads every line. The vineyard stolen, No witness was concealed; Elijah met the king within The very field he sealed. [Bridge] "Where dogs licked Naboth's innocent blood, They shall lick thine," judgment cried. Jezebel would meet the dogs; The royal house would not abide. Ahab rent his clothes and humbled, So the evil waited years, Yet stolen ground remembered What was purchased through false tears. [Final Chorus] The vineyard stolen Could not be made the king's by crime. Possession gained through violence Still answers truth in time.

About the passage

1 Kings 21: A vineyard acquired through a false judgment

The conflict begins with a perfectly ordinary royal desire for nearby land and becomes a demonstration of how public institutions can be bent toward a private seizure. Ahab offers money or another vineyard, but Naboth refuses because the ground is his fathers’ inheritance. Ahab goes home heavy and displeased. Jezebel answers by writing in his name, using his seal, summoning local elders, proclaiming a fast, and arranging two false witnesses. Naboth is executed through the forms of public justice, and Ahab goes down to take possession. Elijah meets him in the vineyard that the divine word still calls Naboth’s. The charge joins what the scheme tried to distribute among different hands: killing and taking possession. Severe judgment follows against Ahab, Jezebel, and the royal house. Yet when Ahab humbles himself with sackcloth and fasting, the LORD explicitly notices it and delays the household judgment until his son’s days.
