[Bridge - Intercession] Pray for the ruler and pray for the poor, Pray that the nations may hear at the door. Ask for a life that is quiet and true, With godliness shaping what people pursue. [Chorus] There is one God, one Mediator, Christ Jesus gave himself ransom for all. One bridge between holy heaven and man, One saving witness in God’s appointed plan. [Verse 2] Lift holy hands with no anger concealed, Let doubt and contention surrender and yield. Let beauty be measured by good that is done, Not gold in the braid or display in the sun. [Bridge - Pastoral Turn] Let learning be ordered, let reverence remain, Remember creation and Eden’s old pain. Continue in faith, love, holiness, light, With sober devotion before God’s sight. [Outro - Final Chorus] There is one God, one Mediator, Christ Jesus gave himself ransom for all. For kings and for strangers the prayer shall ascend, The Savior desires truth to reach every end.

About the passage

1 Timothy 2: Prayer for all and disputed instructions for the gathered community

The Book of 1 Timothy widens the community's prayer before narrowing into some of the letter's most disputed instructions. Supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings reach rulers and all people, a breadth grounded in one God, one mediator, and Christ's ransom. Public devotion is then tested by what accompanies it: holy hands are incompatible with wrath and disputing, while costly display is displaced by good works. The chapter next commands a woman to learn and restricts teaching and authority over a man, grounding the instruction in Adam and Eve. Because the key language and the scope of that appeal are disputed, the passage does not support invented certainty beyond what it states. Its closing reference to salvation and childbearing is equally difficult, with continued faith, love, holiness, and sobriety clearer than the exact mechanism described.
