Not by Your Own Strength

Deuteronomy 7:1-11:32

[Verse 1] Seven nations stronger stood before the chosen people, Altars, pillars, groves, and images were marked for full destruction. Not because of Israel's greatness had the LORD set love upon them, But because He kept the covenant and freed them from the house of slaves. [Pre-Chorus] Do not fear their number, Remember what the LORD did to Egypt. [Chorus] Not by your own strength, not by your righteousness, The land and all its goodness are the covenant's gift. When houses fill and silver grows, do not say your hand has done it, Remember God who gives the power and carried you through wilderness. [Verse 2] Hunger taught dependence on each word that came from God, Clothing did not fail them, feet endured the forty years. The rich land waited water, wheat, and vines and stone and iron, Yet fullness held a danger deeper than the desert thirst. [Bridge] Moses named the calf, the broken stones, and every stubborn act, How he lay before the LORD and pleaded that the people not be lost. New tablets entered ark, the Levites stood apart, And Israel heard the call to circumcise the heart. [Final Chorus] Not by your own strength, not by your righteousness, The rain and every harvest are the covenant's gift. Love the stranger, fear the LORD, teach the words throughout the land, Set blessing and the curse before the people where they stand. [Outro] The wilderness had humbled them, The land would test them with abundance.
