Lyrics · Esther
Esther Obtained Favour
Esther 2:1-23
[Verse 1]
After his anger subsides, Ahasuerus remembers Vashti and the decree against her.
Officers bring the candidates into the women's house under Hegai's custody.
His family history reaches back to the captivity from Jerusalem.
Esther is brought into the palace with the other women.
[Pre-Chorus]
The doors were shut, the sentence had been sealed,
Then one brave step brought hidden things revealed.
[Chorus]
Esther Obtained Favour, the chamber held its breath,
A sealed decree could turn a realm to death.
Yet courage crossed the threshold of the throne,
And hidden providence made justice known.
[Verse 2]
Mordecai walks daily before the court to learn Esther's welfare.
Each candidate completes twelve months of purification before approaching the king.
Esther requests nothing beyond what Hegai recommends.
Esther is taken to Ahasuerus in the tenth month of his seventh year.
[Bridge]
A great royal feast celebrates Esther's elevation as queen.
Mordecai sits in the king's gate while Esther continues to keep her identity secret.
Mordecai discovers Bigthan and Teresh plotting to kill the king and reports it through Esther.
The conspirators are executed, and Mordecai's deed is written in the royal chronicles.
[Final Chorus]
Esther Obtained Favour, the chamber held its breath,
A sealed decree could turn a realm to death.
Yet courage crossed the threshold of the throne,
And hidden providence made judgment known.
[Outro]
The gate stood open after fear had fled.
Justice remembered every word that had been said.
