The Month Was Turned unto Them

Esther 9:1-10:3

[Verse 1] The thirteenth day of Adar arrives when the enemies expect power over the Jews. Jews gather in every city against those seeking their hurt. Provincial officials help the Jews because Mordecai's authority is feared. The Jews strike their enemies in Shushan and throughout the provinces. [Pre-Chorus] The long night ended, fear released its hold, And every household heard the story told. [Chorus] The Month Was Turned unto Them, let the feast begin, Joy returned where grief and fear had been. The people sang because the word held true, And every generation learned what God could do. [Verse 2] Elsewhere the Jews stand for their lives and obtain rest from their enemies. Again they refuse to enrich themselves from the prey. Provincial Jews rest on the fourteenth day with feasting and gladness. Villages celebrate with gladness, feasting, and gifts to one another. [Bridge] The days memorialize sorrow turned to joy and mourning into celebration, with gifts to the poor. The name Purim recalls Haman's Pur, the lot. Esther and Mordecai confirm the observance with authoritative letters of peace and truth. Mordecai ends next to the king, accepted among the Jews, seeking their wealth and speaking peace. [Final Chorus] The Month Was Turned unto Them, let the feast begin, Joy returned where grief and fear had been. The people sang because the word held true, And every generation learned what mercy still could do. [Outro] The feast became a memory to keep. Joy learned the name of those who once would weep.
