[Verse 1 - Tightening]
Sea at their front and the chariots behind,
Dust from six hundred rose into the wind.
Israel cried that the graves had been few;
Moses stood firm where no pathway was viewed.
"Fear not, stand still, see deliverance today."
The cloud moved backward and darkness held sway.
[Build]
Staff over water.
East wind all night.
Deep split asunder.
Dry ground in sight.
[Chorus]
A way through the sea where no way had been,
Walls of the water and Israel between.
Step after step through the heart of the deep,
The Lord made a road for the people to keep.
A way through the sea, and the dawn coming fast;
The slave walked forward, the chariot came last.
[Verse 2]
Egypt pursued into ground that was dry,
Wheels turned against them as morning drew nigh.
Moses stretched outward; the waters returned,
Horseman and captain beneath them were churned.
Not one of the army escaped to the shore;
Israel saw Egypt oppress them no more.
[Song of the Shore]
Sing to the Lord, for His triumph is high;
Horse and his rider are cast in the tide.
Miriam answered with timbrel and dance;
Women sang freedom where waves broke the lance.
[Final Chorus]
A way through the sea where no way had been,
Death at their heels and salvation within.
The shore held a nation, astonished and free;
The Lord made a road through the heart of the sea.
