Lyrics · Ezra
Let the House of God Be Builded
Ezra 6:1-15
[Verse 1]
Darius orders a search in the Babylonian house of royal records.
The memorandum records Cyrus's first-year temple command.
Its height and breadth are specified.
Royal funds are assigned to cover expenses.
[Pre-Chorus]
The stones lay broken, every gate was burned,
But prayer became the place where courage turned.
[Chorus]
Let the House of God Be Builded, raise the broken stones,
Call the scattered families to their homes.
The work grew strong through prayer, truth, and hand,
And ruined gates remembered how to stand.
[Verse 2]
Tribute beyond the river must finance construction without delay.
Animals, grain, salt, wine, and oil are to be supplied daily.
The purpose includes sacrifices and prayer for the king and his sons.
Darius invokes divine judgment against any king or people altering the decree.
[Bridge]
The Jewish elders prosper through Haggai and Zechariah's prophesying.
They build and finish according to God's command.
Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes are named in the imperial support.
The temple is completed on the third day of Adar in Darius's sixth year.
[Final Chorus]
Let the House of God Be Builded, raise the broken stones,
Call the scattered families to their homes.
The work grew strong through prayer, truth, and hand,
And ruined gates remembered where to stand.
[Outro]
The wall stood firm, but hearts still needed care.
The work was stone and covenant and prayer.
