Lyrics · Ezra
The Hand of Our God Was upon Us
Ezra 8:1-36
[Verse 1]
Family heads returning with Ezra are recorded by ancestry and number.
Ezra inspects the people and finds no sons of Levi.
God's good hand brings Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and other Levites.
Ezra proclaims a fast at Ahava.
[Pre-Chorus]
The road bent farther than the eye could know,
Yet every camp was marked before they had to go.
[Chorus]
The Hand of Our God Was upon Us, keep moving on the road,
Through the wilderness beneath the heavy load.
The hand of God marked every place and mile,
And promise kept the weary rank and file.
[Verse 2]
Twelve chief priests and ten additional leaders are separated for the treasure.
Silver, gold, vessels, and royal gifts are weighed into their hands.
The bearers are declared holy with the vessels until weighing at Jerusalem.
The company departs Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month.
[Bridge]
After reaching Jerusalem they rest three days.
The treasure is weighed in the temple and recorded piece by piece.
Returned exiles offer bullocks, rams, lambs, and goats for all Israel.
Royal commissions are delivered, and regional officials strengthen the people and house.
[Final Chorus]
The Hand of Our God Was upon Us, keep moving on the road,
Through the wilderness beneath the heavy load.
The hand of God marked every place and mile,
And promise kept the weary through every trial.
[Outro]
Another camp, another stretch of land.
The road moved on beneath the guiding hand.
