[Priestly Question] If holy flesh touches the hem of a garment, Then bread, wine, oil, or stew by the fold, Does holiness travel from object to object? The priests answer plainly: it does not hold. [Second Question] If one made unclean by a body touches, Does what he reaches become unclean? The priests answer yes, and Haggai declares: So were the people and works he had seen. [Refrain] Holiness is not borrowed by standing nearby; Uncleanness spreads where the heart will not turn. [Verse I] Before stone was laid on stone in the temple, Twenty measures became only ten. Fifty from the press became twenty; Blight, mildew, hail struck labor again. [Chorus] From this day the LORD will bless you, Mark the day the foundation is laid. The seed may not yet fill the granary, The fig and the vine may not yet be displayed. From this day the LORD will bless you, Not because yesterday never was wrong, But because the heart has turned toward obedience, And covenant mercy moves the work along. [Kingdom Movement] Again the word comes to Haggai: Heaven and earth will be shaken. Thrones are overturned, chariots broken, Horse and rider by brother are taken. [Bridge] In that day Zerubbabel, servant and chosen, Is held like a signet close to the hand. Not emperor, not idol, not self-made savior, But marked for the purpose within God's command. [Final Chorus] From this day the LORD will bless you, Mark the day the foundation is laid. The seed may not yet fill the granary, Yet the promise is spoken before harvest is made. From this day the LORD will bless you, The shaking will not unmake his word. A signet rests in the hand of the LORD, And obedience waits for the blessing declared.
