[Verse 1]
At dawn He taught within the temple;
Scribes and Pharisees drew near.
They set a woman in the middle,
Wrapped accusation around fear.
"Moses commanded stones for such a sin;
What sayest Thou?" their trap was laid.
He stooped and wrote upon the ground
While every hidden heart was weighed.
[Refrain]
Let the one without sin
Cast the first stone.
Let the conscience answer
Before judgment is thrown.
From eldest down to youngest,
The circle left the floor.
Accusers walked away in silence;
No stone was lifted anymore.
[Verse 2]
The woman stood where death had waited,
Only mercy near her shame.
The witnesses had disappeared;
No mouth remained to press the claim.
The sentence did not call sin harmless,
Nor leave her chained to what had been.
Mercy opened future footsteps:
Go, and sin no more.
[Chorus]
Go, and sin no more,
Leave the dust and leave the snare.
Go, and sin no more,
Grace has met thee standing there.
No stone disguised as righteousness
Could make the accusers pure.
Go, and sin no more:
Mercy calls the life toward more.
[Final Refrain]
The stones stayed on the pavement.
The woman crossed the door.
Go, and sin no more.
