Out of the Eater

Judges 13:1-14:20

[Verse 1] Forty years beneath the Philistines, a barren house received a word, A son would bear the Nazirite sign and start deliverance for Israel. Manoah watched the offering flame; the messenger rose within, And Samson grew beneath the blessing while the Spirit stirred in Dan. [Pre-Chorus] A lion roared beside the road, Bare hands tore the terror down. [Chorus] Out of the eater came something to eat, Out of the strong came something sweet. But riddles hid a heart unruled, And strength without wisdom became a wounded tool. [Verse 2] Samson chose a wife from Timnath though his parents questioned why, God was seeking an occasion against the rulers of the land. Later honey filled the carcass; he ate and gave but did not tell, Then thirty men received the riddle at the seven-day wedding feast. [Bridge] Threats turned tears into betrayal, pressure opened Samson's word, Before the sunset came the answer from the men who used his bride. The Spirit moved him down to Ashkelon for garments owed by wager, Then anger sent him home alone, while another took his wife. [Final Chorus] Out of the eater came something to eat, Out of the strong came something sweet. But riddles hid a heart unruled, And strength without wisdom became a wounded tool. [Outro] The promise moved within him, But so did every unruled fire.
