How Doth the City Sit Solitary

Lamentations 1:1-11

[Lament I] How doth the city sit solitary now, A crown without a forehead, a gate without a vow. The road to the feast has forgotten the feet, The priests breathe sorrow where pilgrims would meet. [Refrain] No comforter came when the night filled her eyes, Old friends crossed over and stood with her foes. [Lament II] She remembers the music, the sabbath, the gold, While hunger buys bread with the treasures she sold. The princes ran empty like deer without field, The sanctuary opened where strangers had entered. [Hope Turn] Jerusalem whispers from dust at the wall, Look on my sorrow; remember my fall. The city is living, but everything known is gone, How doth the city sit solitary till dawn. [Final Chorus] No comforter came when the night filled her eyes, Old friends crossed over and stood with her foes. The city is living, but everything known is gone, How doth the city sit solitary till dawn.
