Strange Fire

Leviticus 9:1-10:20

[Verse 1] On the eighth day Aaron offered for himself and for the crowd, Blood and grain and peace ascended under every word allowed. He raised his hands in blessing, Moses joined him at the door, Then glory filled the gathering and fire consumed the offering. [Pre-Chorus] The people shouted, fell before Him, Holy fire answered from the LORD. [Chorus] Strange fire crossed the boundary, What God had not commanded came too near. Nadab and Abihu fell before the sanctuary, And Aaron stood in silence under holy fear. [Verse 2] Their bodies left the camp still clothed in priestly dress, The household could not leave the post or turn the charge to grief. Wine was barred from service so discernment would remain, Between the holy and the common, clean and unclean plain. [Bridge] Moses asked about the goat and angered at the loss, Aaron answered from the sorrow of the day and what it cost. The answer satisfied him, but the warning did not fade: Those who draw near must honor God in every act they make. [Final Chorus] Strange fire crossed the boundary, What God had not commanded came too near. Glory and judgment stood before the sanctuary, And Aaron stood in silence under holy fear. [Outro] The same fire blessed the altar, And judged the unauthorized flame.
