Matthew
[Verse 1] Morning brought Him bound to Pilate, Council charges in their breath. Judas cast the silver downward, Then went out and chose his death. Pilate asked of kingship; Accusation filled the hall. He found no fault deserving judgment, Yet the voices would not fall. [Refrain] Behold the man, Crowned in thorns and clothed in scarlet. Behold the man, Mocked by soldiers in the court. The ruler washed his hands before them, But water could not cleanse the plan. Barabbas walked into the daylight. Behold the man. [Verse 2] Herod hoped to see a wonder, Questioned long and heard no word. Robes of ridicule surrounded The one whom falsehood had accused. Pilate offered chastisement, Tried release from feast-day grace. "Crucify Him!" rose the answer, Fear of Caesar sealed the case. [Bridge] No witness held one honest story. No governor believed the claim. Political peace outweighed justice; Power yielded truth to shame. [Final Refrain] Behold the man, Bruised beneath a borrowed crown. Behold the man, The innocent condemned. The crowd chose one whose hands knew violence; The Prince of Life was handed down.
