Jesus passed by and said unto him, Follow me; He arose and followed, leaving the table. [Refrain - at meat] Publicans and sinners sat down with Jesus, Many came near and shared the bread. The whole need not a physician, But they that are sick. [Bridge - the murmuring] Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? The question moved cold around the room. Go ye and learn what this meaneth: I will have mercy, and not sacrifice. [Verse 2 - whom he calls] Not the righteous, but sinners to repentance; Not the distant, but those who know their need.
