Matthew
[Verse 1] Among the tombs beyond the sea, A man cried night and day. Chains had broken from his arms; No human hand could make him stay. He cut himself among the stones, Unclothed beneath the sky. When Jesus stepped upon the shore, The tormented ran and cried. [Refrain] What is thy name? "Legion, for many remain." What is thy name? A multitude answered through pain. Yet every unclean spirit Knew authority had come; What is thy name? The darkness could not overcome. [Verse 2] The spirits begged to enter swine; The herd ran down the steep. Two thousand rushed into the water And vanished in the deep. The townsmen found the former madman Clothed and seated, in his mind. Fear replaced their former terror; They asked the Healer to leave behind. [Bridge] The restored man begged to follow, But received a homeward role: Tell thy friends what mercy has done; Make the ten towns hear the whole. [Final Chorus] What is thy name? No legion could possess the shore. The man once bound among the graves Went home to speak of mercy's power.
