Where Christ Was Not Named
Romans · Chanson Réaliste
[Intro]
From Jerusalem westward, the road keeps its fire;
not for a name of my own, but a farther desire.
[Verse 1]
Grace made a minister, Christ did the deed;
word followed action, and power met need.
From city to border the witness was sown,
through Spirit and wonder, yet never my own.
[Verse 2]
I have strived for the fields without memory,
for ears never opened and eyes yet to see.
I will not build where another has laid;
I follow the silence where Christ is unnamed.
[Refrain]
Where Christ was not named, let the good news arrive.
Where no one had heard, let understanding rise.
Not boasting in labor my hands could have claimed;
only what Christ has done where Christ was not named.
[Bridge]
But first, to Jerusalem, carrying bread,
Macedonia and Achaia remembering the need.
Then onward through Rome, if the Lord clears the way,
toward Spain and the west at the end of the day.
[Verse 3]
Strive with me, brethren, in prayer before God:
for rescue from hatred, for service received,
that joy may arrive after danger is crossed,
and peace share the room when the journey is done.
[Outro]
The map is still open.
The gospel moves on.
