Return unto the LORD

Zechariah 1:1-17

[Call] The fathers heard the prophets, Yet turned their shoulders from the word. Their cities passed, their boasts were scattered, But every warning still was heard. [Refrain] Return unto the LORD, And mercy will return. Do not inherit hardened roads Where former generations burned. [Night Vision] At dusk among the myrtle shadows, A red horse waits in valley air. Behind him stand the colored riders, Sent through the earth from everywhere. [Report] The nations rest in careless quiet, While Zion bears her seventy years. The angel asks how long compassion Will leave Jerusalem in tears. [Chorus] Return unto the LORD, The jealous love of God is strong. His house will rise, the line be stretched, His cities overflow with song. Return unto the LORD, The scattered towns will breathe again. The word that found the fathers' graves Still calls the living home from sin. [Bridge] Comfort is spoken through the darkness, Not cheap relief, but covenant grace. The temple stones will know their order, And mercy measure out the place. [Final Chorus] Return unto the LORD, Let stubborn memory lose its claim. Jerusalem will yet be chosen, And Zion comforted by name. Return unto the LORD, The night patrol has made its round. Beyond the myrtles, hope is spoken; The measuring line touches the ground. [Outro] The riders stood in silence, But the answer crossed the night.
