What this page covers
The videos here take Habakkuk as a whole rather than one passage at a time, so this is the ground they cover: “How Long Shall I Cry”, “The Just Shall Live by His Faith”, “God Came from Teman” and “Although the Fig Tree Shall Not Blossom”.
How Long Shall I Cry (Habakkuk 1). This prophet does not address the nation. He addresses God, and he is complaining. How long shall I cry and thou wilt not hear? Violence, strife, and a law that is slacked. The answer he gets is worse than the silence was: I am raising up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation. So the second complaint is the harder one. Why would a holy God use somebody worse to punish somebody bad?
Although the Fig Tree Shall Not Blossom (Habakkuk 3:16–19). He says his belly trembled, his lips quivered at the voice, and rottenness entered into his bones, which is what fear actually feels like from inside. And then the conclusion the whole book was built to reach: although the fig tree shall not blossom and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD. He will make my feet like hinds’ feet.
