What this page covers
Where the videos go in Jonah
The videos here take Jonah as a whole rather than one passage at a time, so this is the ground they cover: “Down to Joppa, Down to the Ship”, “Out of the Belly of Hell Cried I”, “Yet Forty Days” and “Doest Thou Well to Be Angry”.
Down to Joppa, Down to the Ship (Jonah 1). A prophet is sent east to a city famous for cruelty and immediately buys passage west. The storm is aimed at him, and while pagan sailors row and pray to everything they can think of, he is asleep below deck. When the lot falls on him he tells them to throw him overboard, which they try hard not to do, and when they finally do the sea goes calm and the sailors start making vows.
Doest Thou Well to Be Angry (Jonah 4). Jonah is furious, and explains that this is exactly why he ran: I knew that thou art a gracious God, slow to anger and of great kindness. He sits down east of the city to watch, hoping. A plant grows over him and he is glad of it, a worm kills it and he wants to die, and God’s last word is a question about a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and also much cattle.
