What this page covers
Where the videos go in Obadiah
The videos here take Obadiah as a whole rather than one passage at a time, so this is the ground they cover: “Though Thou Exalt Thyself as the Eagle”, “Thou Shouldest Not Have Looked”, “As Thou Hast Done, It Shall Be Done unto Thee” and “The Kingdom Shall Be the LORD’s”.
Though Thou Exalt Thyself as the Eagle (Obadiah 1–9). The shortest book in the Old Testament is one message to one small nation. Edom lives in the clefts of the rock, high up, and says in its heart who shall bring me down. Thieves would leave something behind, and grape gatherers would leave gleanings, but nothing here will be left. The wise men of Teman will be no help, and the allies who eat at Edom’s table are the ones setting the trap.
The Kingdom Shall Be the LORD’s (Obadiah 19–21). The last verses are a map. The exiles come back and spread out in every direction, south into the mountain of Esau, west into Philistia, north into Ephraim and Gilead, and the captives of Jerusalem who were carried as far as Sepharad take the cities of the south. Saviours come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau, and the book’s last line settles whose the kingdom is.
