[Verse 1] Ahab begins reigning in Samaria and does more evil than those before him. Ahab builds a Baal house and altar in Samaria. Jericho is rebuilt at the cost of Hiel's sons, fulfilling Joshua's word. God directs Elijah eastward to hide by the brook Cherith. [Bridge] Her son becomes sick until no breath remains in him. The widow confronts Elijah in grief and remembrance of sin. Elijah carries the child upward, cries to God. The child's life returns, and the widow confesses Elijah's word as truth.
