Lyrics · 2 Kings
The Man Who Shall Smite the House of Ahab
2 Kings 8:1-9:13
[Verse 1]
Elisha warns the Shunammite woman to leave during a seven-year famine.
After seven years she appeals to the king for her house and land.
The king restores her property and all produce from the years of absence.
Hazael brings a great gift and asks whether the king will recover.
[Pre-Chorus]
The word was rare until the silence broke,
Then truth stood upright in the words God spoke.
[Chorus]
The Man Who Shall Smite the House of Ahab, the word came like a flame,
Kings could resist but could not silence the name.
The prophet stood where fear had drawn the line,
And heaven answered in appointed time.
[Verse 2]
Hazael returns, deceives Ben-hadad, and smothers him with a wet cloth.
Jehoram of Judah reigns in the way of Ahab because of his marriage.
Edom revolts from Judah and establishes its own king.
Elisha sends a prophetic son with oil to Ramoth-gilead.
[Bridge]
Jehu enters an inner chamber and receives oil upon his head.
He is commissioned to destroy Ahab's house and avenge the prophets' blood.
The young prophet opens the door and immediately flees.
Jehu's fellow captains spread garments beneath him and proclaim him king.
[Final Chorus]
The Man Who Shall Smite the House of Ahab, the word came like a flame,
Kings could resist but could not silence the name.
The prophet stood where fear had drawn the line,
And heaven answered in the final time.
[Outro]
The word went out and did not fall in vain.
The prophet left the truth upon the plain.
