[Verse 1]
Hezekiah becomes mortally sick, and Isaiah tells him to set his house in order.
He remembers sincere walking and weeps greatly.
God says Hezekiah's prayer and tears have been seen.
Jerusalem is also promised defense from Assyria.
[Pre-Chorus]
The word was rare until the silence broke,
Then truth stood upright in the words God spoke.
[Chorus]
The Shadow Went Backward, the word came like a flame,
Kings could resist but could not silence the name.
The prophet stood where fear had drawn the line,
And heaven answered in appointed time.
[Verse 2]
Hezekiah chooses the harder sign of backward movement.
Isaiah cries to God, and the shadow returns ten degrees.
Merodach-baladan sends letters and a present after hearing of the sickness.
Isaiah asks where the visitors came from and what they saw.
[Bridge]
Isaiah announces that all treasures will one day be carried to Babylon.
Some of Hezekiah's descendants will serve as eunuchs in the Babylonian palace.
Hezekiah accepts the word because peace and truth will remain in his days.
His pool, conduit, and other acts are recorded before his death and Manasseh's succession.
[Final Chorus]
The Shadow Went Backward, the word came like a flame,
Kings could resist but could not silence the name.
The prophet stood where fear had drawn the line,
And heaven answered in the final time.
[Outro]
The word went out and did not fall in vain.
The prophet left the truth upon the plain.

About the passage
2 Kings 20: Added years and an exposed treasury
Hezekiah's crisis moves from the city to his body. Isaiah announces death, Hezekiah prays and weeps, and before the prophet has even cleared the court the word sends him back with fifteen added years and a promise of healing. A reversed shadow confirms the promise. Then Babylon enters the chapter quietly, not with soldiers but with letters and a gift after hearing of the king's illness. Hezekiah shows the visitors everything in his stores, and Isaiah answers the comprehensive display with a comprehensive future loss. The treasures will go to Babylon, and royal descendants will serve there. Hezekiah accepts the word while speaking of peace in his own days. The reign closes with a king rescued in the present and a future judgment now attached to the wealth behind him.
